history ! Rayne was born to Sophia and Victor Winters. When Sophia was impregnated, the couple expected a boy. However, upon her birth, needless to say, Victor was quite irate. A girl would do him little good as they were not as strong as boys and in district seven, one must be strong and hearty to cut down trees and haul them to the transport trucks.
Nevertheless, Rayne grew up to be strong, every bit as masculine as her feminine body would allow her to be. She was a natural with an ax, and a fast worker. However, he feats were never enough to impress her father. Her mother praised her, but only to the chastisement and often a back-handed swat from Victor.
While Rayne's homelife wasn't picture perfect, nothing was horrid. Yes, her father oft hit her mother, but he never laid a hand on Rayne. Oh no, quite the contrary. He never acknowledged her save when they were in the forest working. Even there she was lucky to get caveman like grunts.
At age 13, Sophia caught ill and was no longer able to work, meaning this was the first year Rayne was to sign up for tessera and has every year since.
With her mother's condition getting worse, and her father's reluctance to approve of his daughter, Rayne is caught between too many emotions that have made her hard-willed and angry. Now, at 16, lord only knows what awaits her behind the next tree trunk.
