family background ! -His father passed away in a hunting 'incident' before he ever got to really know him
-His mother Hollie works in the packaging factory and is always worried about her son, does not approve of having a dog because he is messy and just another mouth to feed but deals with him because Talon makes her
-His aunt Hallie works alongside his mom in the factory and lost her son to the same 'hunting incident' Hollie lost her husband to, does not have any other children of her own so is often over fussing with Talon about 'why he skipped school again' and 'why he doesn't spend more time with girls instead of that dog'
-His uncle Rex isn't very sociable since his son passed, but he's the one who taught Talon how to create snares and hunt.

history ! At a young age, Talon lost his father to some sort of hunting incident. No one's certain what really happened, only that it was a terrible tragedy that killed a good handful of district nine's hunters. His mother was very protective of him after that, making sure he came home from school on time and worrying when he was even the slightest bit late. It wasn't only her who was a problem though, it was his aunt Hallie. She had lost her son in the accident as well and was always over, fretting over him just as much as his mom did.
When he started learning about the district's professions all Talon wanted to do was learn how to hunt. His mother and aunt were against it from the start, but he continued to try and convince them that he could. He'd catch small animals around the district and bring them home, sneak up on them when they came home from working at the packaging factory, create little traps he had learned from school. It wasn't until his uncle Rex bought him a hunting dog that they agreed. Not too willingly, either. But if Rex was sure that Talon could learn how to hunt, and with another mouth to feed and not enough money, well, Hollie couldn't say no.
From that day on after school, uncle Rex took him out in the forest to teach him how to hunt. He taught him snares, how to track, how to stay hidden and sneak up on the animal. He brought him along a lot of the time, probably for the company as well although they didn't talk much. When Talon started to get the hang of it they brought along the dog, which he named Rascal courtesy of his mom always calling him a "little rascal!" When the two started to bond and hunt well together, Rex decided it was time to let them hunt on their own.
Spending so much time out in the forest and then with Rascal when he wasn't hunting, his mom and aunt would get quite annoyed. He enjoyed being able to reciprocate the annoyance he felt when they would fuss over him. Which they often did, saying he was too dirty and should make himself look more presentable, to stop playing with his dog all the time and go out and spend time with the girls from his class. Except that he didn't like class and preferred being covered in dirt, and the only time he hung around the girls was when he had Rascal who was always looking for attention.
However, it was family after all, only trying to look out for him. To please them he'd tidy up now and then and attempt conversation with others. He wasn't the best conversationalist and would often feel quite awkward, but others seemed to enjoy his company well enough. His aunt said the 'awkwardness' made him endearing and likable; he'd just shrug his shoulders and would be happy that they were happy he was trying. However, whenever he could, he'd being along Rascal for the fun of it--and of course, the place he felt happiest and most free was out in the forest.
